Lines going up and down… numbers everywhere…
But once you understand the basics, it becomes very simple.
What is a Stock Chart?
A stock chart shows:
👉 How a stock’s price moves over time
That’s it.
Simple Way to Look at a Chart
- Left side → Past price
- Right side → Current price
- Line going up → Price increasing
- Line going down → Price decreasing
1. Price (Most Important Thing)
The main thing on a chart is the price.
👉 It tells you how much the stock is worth right now.
2. Time (X-Axis)
At the bottom, you see time:
- Minutes
- Days
- Months
- Years
👉 This shows _when_ the price changed.
3. Trend (Direction of the Chart)
This is very important.
Uptrend
- Price keeps going up
- Shows strength
Downtrend
- Price keeps going down
- Shows weakness
4. Candlestick (Basic Idea)
Sometimes charts don’t show lines, they show candles.
Each candle shows:
- Opening price
- Closing price
- High and low
👉 Green candle = price went up
👉 Red candle = price went down
(Don’t overthink this in the beginning.)
5. Support & Resistance (Simple Idea)
- Support = price where stock stops falling
- Resistance = price where stock stops rising
👉 Think of it like a floor and a ceiling.
Real Example
When you look at big indices like the Nifty 50, you’ll see:
- Long-term upward movement
- Short-term ups and downs
👉 This is completely normal.
Beginner Mistake
Many beginners:
- Look at charts and panic
- Try to predict everything
👉 Charts are not magic. They just show past behavior.
Simple Rule to Remember
👉 Don’t try to be perfect
👉 Just understand direction (up or down)
That alone is enough in the beginning.
Final Thought by Atiya Khoury
Stock charts are not complicated.
👉 They are just a story of price movement
Once you understand the basics:
- You stop guessing
- You start observing
And that’s how smart decisions begin.
